Take a quick look at the various types of collagen peptides

Collagen peptide

Collagen is the main structural protein in human connective tissue, which accounts for 25-35% of the total protein mass in mammals.  Due to the high tensile strength of collagen.  Allows it to perform many important structural functions in the body, from keeping skin elastic, firm and delicate to providing bones with the rigidity and integrity needed to keep the body healthy.

Types and distribution of collagen peptide

By 2011, have identified 30 kinds of collagen, five of the most common types are: type I , type II, type III, type IV , type V.

  • Type I :Over 90% of collagen is type I, which is mainly found in adult skin and muscle tendon, bone tissue.
  • Type II : is mainly produced by chondrocytes and is mostly found in bones, joints, tendons and other tissues.
  • Type III :is mainly found in the skin, lining of blood vessels and intestines of infants.
  • Type IV : is mainly found in basal layer.
  • Type V : is mostly found on cell surface, hair, placenta and so on.

The difference between Type I and Type III

Type I and III mainly exist in connective tissues such as skin, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels, forming a network structure of extracellular matrix, supporting organs and protecting the body.

Collagen is mainly synthesized by fibroblasts, but adult dermal fibroblasts can only synthesize type I, which is also the reason why the proportion of type III decreases while the proportion of type I keeps increasing in the process of human growth. Type I is relatively hard collagen, and type III is elastic collagen. The content of type III in baby skin accounts for more than 80%, so it has excellent elasticity and repair function. The loss of type III in adult skin decreases with the increase of age. Meanwhile, adult dermis has no ability to synthesize type III and can only synthesize type I, so scars are often left during wound healing.

With the increase of age, the loss of type III is faster and faster, especially after the age of 25, the synthesis rate of type III in the skin can not keep up with the loss rate, resulting in wrinkles, sagging and other aging phenomena. The tissue fibers of type I are thicker and have a stronger structure, which is equivalent to providing the skin with the support of a grid to prop up the skin. Type III has a softer and more elastic structure, which can promote skin wound healing. With age, type III is gradually lost and cannot be synthesized by the human body. In summary, type I focuses on anti-aging and type III focuses on repair, which is the core difference between them.
